Queensland police reported that the influencer filmed the child while she was in severe distress and used these videos to appeal for donations. Between August 6 and October 15, 2024, she is accused of obtaining and administering unauthorized prescription medications to the child. The funds raised through GoFundMe amounted to approximately $60,000 AUD (about $37,000 USD), and the platform is currently working to refund donors following her arrest.
Medical staff alerted authorities on October 15 after the child was admitted to the hospital with significant emotional and physical distress. Subsequent tests indicated that the child had been exposed to unauthorized medications. The influencer faces multiple charges, including five counts of administering poison with intent to harm, three counts of preparation to commit crimes with dangerous things, and one count each of torture, child exploitation material, and fraud.
During her court appearance, the influencer’s attorney requested protective custody due to concerns over her safety amid public scrutiny. Detective Inspector Paul Dalton emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating, “There is no excuse for harming a child, especially not a one-year-old infant who is reliant on others for care and survival.” The case has raised significant public concern and highlighted the potential dangers of social media influence.
This case underscores the serious implications of exploiting vulnerable individuals for financial gain, particularly through social media platforms. As investigations continue, the focus remains on the well-being of the child and the accountability of those who misuse their influence.
