Three children were found living alone in “absolute squalor” in Pontiac, Michigan, after their mother abandoned them for several years. The 34-year-old mother was arrested last week, and the children’s identities have been protected due to their ages of 15, 13, and 12.

The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies conducted a welfare check at the home after concerns were raised by the landlord about the mother’s absence since December. Upon arrival, they found the residence filled with garbage, mold, and human waste. The sheriff described the conditions as “abuse of the highest order,” stating that it was unacceptable for any child to live in such circumstances.
The children had reportedly been left without proper care since around 2020 or 2021. They relied on weekly deliveries of prepared food from either their mother or unknown individuals. Critical details include:

- The boy slept on a mattress while his sisters used pizza boxes as bedding.
- None of the children had attended school since being abandoned.
After being discovered, all three children were taken to a hospital for evaluation before being placed into protective custody with a relative by Child Protective Services.
