iFixit examined the iPhone 17 Pro and reported on the scratches around its camera plateau, discussing the issue with engineer David Niebuhr.
- iFixit talked to David Niebuhr, an engineer.
- iPhone 17 Pro’s camera plateau shows scratches.
- Sharp edge of the camera bump causes damage.
- iFixit gives Apple credit for a screwed-in battery.
- Users must remove the screen for most repairs.
David Niebuhr, an engineer and professor of mechanical engineering, explained that the scratches are more prominent because of the sharp edge of the camera bump. He stated that the anodization process is not as even, and “Apple could have prevented this by making a more gradual curve and avoiding a relatively sharp corner.”
iFixit noted that unless the iPhone 17 Pro is placed in a case, the camera plateau is “probably going to see some damage” during its lifetime. They gave Apple credit for a screwed-in battery but criticized the requirement to remove the screen for most repairs.
