- Google officially launched AI Mode’s Search Live capability today.
- The feature allows both audio and video input.
- Access via the Google app or Google Lens.
- Testing started in July for this new feature.
- Helps with learning hobbies and troubleshooting electronics.
- No longer need to opt-in to Google Lab for Search Live.
From the top of the Google app, users can tap the “Live” icon next to the wide “AI Mode” pill to access a fullscreen interface featuring a waveform. Controls at the bottom allow users to mute the microphone or enable the camera.
Another way to access this Project Astra-powered experience is from Google Lens, where “Live” appears after “Search” and “Translate.” Testing began in July, with camera use cases highlighted for learning new hobbies and troubleshooting electronics.
- For example, users can ask about tools in a matcha set or ingredient substitutes by pointing their camera at the equipment.
- Users can also receive step-by-step help for setting up electronics by asking which cable goes where.
Web results appear in a carousel above the three buttons. The ‘G’ logo is in the top-left corner, while the ‘x’ on the other side allows users to exit.
Today’s US launch means users no longer have to opt-in to the Google Lab for Search Live.
