Amazon is introducing two new writing tablets: the Kindle Scribe 3 and the Kindle Scribe Colorsoft. These devices were showcased at a fall hardware event in New York on September 30, 2025.
New Features of Kindle Scribe Colorsoft
The Kindle Scribe Colorsoft features a full-color display, marking Amazon’s first foray into color for its notebook-like ereaders. This display is designed to be crisp yet subtle, avoiding the harsh brightness typical of standard tablets. The accompanying pen allows users to write in 10 different colors and five shades of highlighter.
Additionally, the Scribe Colorsoft supports document importing from Google Docs and OneDrive. It includes a new “texture-molded glass” display and a redesigned LED light system, enhancing the writing experience to feel more like writing on paper.
Improvements in Kindle Scribe 3
The Kindle Scribe 3 has undergone significant redesign, making it thinner and lighter than its predecessor. At just 5.4mm thick, it aims for a “paper-like” design. Amazon claims that writing latency has been reduced to under 12 milliseconds, improving the writing and page-turning experience.
Both new models are equipped with an updated quad-core processor and increased memory compared to the Scribe 2. They also include AI features, such as the ability to generate summaries and search through notes. Amazon plans to integrate these devices with its Alexa+ service, enabling users to ask questions based on their notebook contents.
The Kindle Scribe Colorsoft will start at $630, while the Scribe 3 will begin at $500. A version of the Scribe 3 without a front light will be available for $430. The devices are set to go on sale in the united states later this year and will reach the UK and Germany in early 2026.
