On September 30, 2025, Amazon unveiled the new Kindle Scribe and the first-ever color Kindle Scribe during its fall hardware event. Both devices will feature new AI capabilities.
Specifications of Kindle Scribe
The Kindle Scribe includes an 11-inch glare-free display, is 5.4mm thick, and weighs 400g. It is designed to be 40% faster for writing and page-turning. The device features a new texture-molded glass that enhances the pen’s glide, making it feel like writing on paper.
Equipped with a quad-core chip and more memory, the Kindle Scribe utilizes the latest Oxide display technology for a smoother experience. There are two versions available: one with a front light, priced at $499.99, and another without, available early next year for $429.99.
Features of Kindle Scribe Colorsoft
The Kindle Scribe Colorsoft employs display technology that produces soft colors, minimizing eye strain compared to traditional LCD displays. A new rendering engine enhances color quality and ensures that writing feels fast and natural. The Colorsoft version will start at $629.99 and offers weeks of battery life.
Both devices introduce a new Home experience, allowing users to jot down notes and access recently opened books and documents. Significant product integrations will facilitate handwritten notes, including a feature for searching notes and receiving AI-generated summaries. Next year, users will be able to send notes to Alexa+ for more in-depth discussions.
Additionally, the Colorsoft version allows artists to create smooth gradients and tones with a new shader tool. Users can choose from 10 pen colors and five highlighter colors for writing, drawing, and annotating.
New AI reading features will include a “Story so Far” option, helping users catch up on their reading. An “Ask this Book” feature will enable users to highlight text and receive spoiler-free answers regarding character motives or scene significance. These features will be available on Kindle devices early next year.
