An accident occurred on the Vierstraat, a paved road between the Venlosesteenweg and Breeërsteenweg in Kessenich, resulting in injuries to the young driver. The incident took place on October 1, 2025.
Details of the Accident
The Vierstraat runs between Ophoven and Kessenich. A young driver took the Vierstraat from the Venlosesteenweg, but for unknown reasons, veered off the narrow road. He traveled over 200 meters through a grassy area before crashing into a fence made of concrete slabs at the rear of a property accessing Breeërsteenweg. This impact caused the car to penetrate the concrete slabs and hit the garage behind them, damaging supporting wooden posts as well.
The vehicle ended up lodged sideways in the garage, destroying a workbench, gardening equipment, and a sit-on mower. The garage’s roof partially collapsed due to the impact.
Emergency Response
The collision threw the driver from the vehicle. A MUG-team provided initial medical assistance at the scene before transporting him to a hospital in Maaseik. The fire services from Maaseik and Maasmechelen were also called to the location to extract the vehicle, which was trapped behind the support posts and the garage roof.
At the time of the accident, numerous youths were returning home from school along the Breeërsteenweg bike path. They witnessed the car veering off the road and crashing through the concrete slabs. One witness noted, “The car drove through the grass and then we heard a bang. When we checked, the car was gone. I got goosebumps seeing the situation.”
One resident commented on the damage to the garage: “It is a garage for our caravan. Fortunately, the caravan was not inside the garage but in front of the house. It’s a shame about the garage and its contents. The garage walls are heavily damaged as well.”
