Apple is expanding its car key feature in the Wallet app for 13 new vehicle brands. This update follows recent enhancements to CarPlay in iOS 26. The new brands will soon support car keys, allowing access to vehicles using iPhones or Apple Watches.
Expansion of Apple Wallet’s car key feature
The car key feature was launched by Apple in 2020 as part of its initiative to replace physical wallets. This feature allows users to unlock and start their vehicles using their devices. Different manufacturers implement various functionalities for car keys.
Some of the available features include:
- Passive entry: The car unlocks as you approach with your device and locks when you walk away.
- Proximity: Lock, unlock, and start the car by holding your device near the door handle or key reader.
- Remote access: Lock and unlock your car remotely and access other features through your device.
Currently, there is a list of supported car key vehicles, which will soon include 13 additional brands as announced by Apple this summer.
New vehicle brands supporting car keys
The following 13 vehicle brands will soon gain car key support:
- Acura
- Cadillac
- Chery
- Chevrolet
- GMC
- Hongqi
- Lucid
- Porsche
- Rivian
- Smart
- Tata
- Voyah
- WEY
Apple has not provided a specific timeline for when these brands will adopt car key support. However, there are indications that three brands may be the first to implement this feature. After these additions, a total of 33 vehicle brands will be supported by Apple Wallet.
