Google’s Gemini has been integrated into Google Home, alongside the launch of a new speaker, Nest Cam, and Nest Doorbell. These updates were announced on October 1, 2025.
New Nest Cameras
Each of the new Nest cameras offers six hours of event history in 10-second video clips for free. To access the AI capabilities, users must subscribe to one of the new Google Home Premium plans. Google is collaborating with third parties to create more Gemini-compatible devices. Walmart is the first partner, offering the Onn Indoor Wired Camera for $23 and the Onn Video Doorbell for $50, both featuring budget-friendly 1080p resolution.
Details on Google Home Speaker
The Google Home Speaker, priced at $100, marks the first new Google Home smart speaker since the Nest Audio in 2020. This device features a round design made from 3D knit recycled yarn and will be available in spring 2026. Consumers can choose from four colors: Jade, Berry, Porcelain, and Hazel. The speaker includes a light strip around the base to indicate when Gemini is active and provides 360 audio. Users can pair two speakers with the Google TV Streamer 4K for surround sound, and it can also be grouped with other Nest speakers for stereo sound or multiroom music. A physical toggle is available to mute the microphone.
Google’s smart home platform has faced challenges in recent years, including a complicated transition from the Nest app and missing features. The latest announcements represent a significant advancement for Google’s smart home ambitions as competition in the home voice assistant market intensifies.
