The identity of the murdered man found in a maize field in Antwerp is confirmed as 41-year-old Sherwin Cedric Peterhof. He was found on August 15, 2025. Two suspects have been arrested in connection with his death, and police urgently seek witnesses.

Background of the victim

Sherwin Peterhof, originally from Suriname, left for the Netherlands on February 15, 2025. He spent time living with an uncle in Almere during this period and was in contact with individuals in both Amsterdam and Almere. The reasons for his connections remain unclear.

Last sightings and investigations

The last known footage of Sherwin, captured on August 5, shows him walking with an unidentified man at Hilversum station. This man is being sought as a potential key witness. They parted ways, with Sherwin appearing cheerful as he left the station at approximately 19:25.

More than an hour later, he was again seen on camera at Bijlmer ArenA station in Amsterdam, where he walked towards Bijlmerplein without showing signs of distress. Investigators believe he was heading to an apartment near the plaza.

Discovery of the body

On August 12, a friend reported Sherwin missing to the police. On August 15, a farmer discovered his body in a maize field in Kempense Meer. The farmer noticed a trail of flattened maize indicative of something unusual. Upon investigation, he uncovered Sherwin’s body and promptly informed the authorities.

The police confirmed his death resulted from violent means, leading to the initiation of a murder investigation.

Current status of the case

In collaboration with Dutch authorities, Belgian investigators made two arrests. The first was a woman, aged 40, apprehended at Schiphol Airport on suspicion of being involved in Sherwin’s death. The police continue to investigate her possible role in his disappearance and murder. In late September, a second male suspect was also arrested, though details surrounding this arrest are not disclosed. Further arrests are anticipated.

Investigators seek urgent public assistance for anyone who may have seen Sherwin between August 5 and August 15, or who witnessed anything relating to the maize field area. Sherwin’s clothing, jewelry, and backpack from August 5 remain missing, and the police urge anyone with information regarding these items to come forward.
