Nothing is launching its Android 16 update in beta today with Nothing OS 4.0. This update is available for select devices but excludes some key models.
New Features in Nothing OS 4.0
Nothing OS 4.0 was announced earlier this month, emphasizing new AI features. The update introduces support for AI-generated “Essential Apps,” which are custom widgets. The Android 16 update enables the new “AI Dashboard” on Phone (3) and includes various improvements such as enhanced lock screen performance, optimized brightness behavior, and improved Bluetooth stability.
Nothing OS 4.0 is currently available in open beta for the following devices:
- Nothing Phone (3)
- Nothing Phone (2)
- Nothing Phone (2a)
- Nothing Phone (2a) Plus
Notably, Nothing Phone (3a) and Phone (3a) Pro are not included in this list. Other new features in the beta include:
- Pop-up View with two floating icons for faster switching
- Two new lock screen clock faces
- 2×2 Quick Settings tile support
- Extra Dark Mode
- “Stretch” Camera preset for Phone (2), Phone (2a), and Phone (2a) Plus
Installation Process for Users
To install Nothing OS 4.0, users must download an APK and enroll in the beta. The process involves downloading the Beta Updates Hub .apk and installing it from the Downloads folder. After installation, users can sign up for the beta and upgrade their devices.
