Qualcomm has introduced its Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme chip for laptops, which reportedly matches Apple’s M4 chip in performance. This development follows years of competition in the chip market, particularly against Apple Silicon. The announcement was made on September 30, 2025.
Performance Comparison
Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme chip has been benchmarked against Apple’s M4 chip. In multi-core tests, the M4 Max outperformed the Snapdragon chip by 8.5 percent. Conversely, the Snapdragon chip excelled in single-core tests, surpassing the M4 by 7 percent. In another benchmark, Cinebench 2024, the performance results showed that both chips are essentially even.
Despite this close performance, the Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme is a new chip that has not yet been integrated into any laptops. Meanwhile, Apple is expected to release its next-generation M5 chip soon, likely debuting first in an iPad Pro within the next month and then in the MacBook Pro in the first half of the following year.
Future Prospects
As Qualcomm’s new chip enters the market, Apple is anticipated to advance further with its upcoming M5 chip. This means that by the time laptops featuring the Snapdragon chip become available, Apple may already have outpaced Qualcomm once again.
