Tragedy Strikes Near Breezy Point: Boat Capsizes, Claiming 3 Lives and Leaving 1 Missing

At least three people have died and one person remains missing after a boat capsized in the Ambrose Channel, southeast of Breezy Point on Sunday. The incident occurred around 12:04 p.m., prompting a response from the U.S. Coast Guard and local authorities.

Officials reported that four of the five individuals recovered were unresponsive, with two being airlifted to Staten Island University Hospital. Search efforts continued into the night for the missing individual.

The tragic incident unfolded approximately five miles southeast of Breezy Point, a neighborhood located at the tip of Queens’ Rockaway Peninsula. The U.S. Coast Guard received alerts about a “vessel in distress” shortly before noon and quickly dispatched rescue boats and an MH-65 helicopter from Air Station Atlantic City.

Of the five people in the water, four were found unresponsive. Emergency responders administered CPR to some victims on-site before transporting them to medical facilities:

• Two individuals airlifted to Staten Island University Hospital.
• Three others taken to Coast Guard Station Sandy Hook for further medical assistance.

The search for the missing individual included support from various agencies such as NYPD, FDNY, New Jersey State Police, and Sandy Hook Pilots. As of Sunday night, efforts remained active but no further updates on recovery had been released by officials.
