What happens in Kandahar?
CIA agent Tom Harris (Butler) has to execute a risky operation: Blow up an Iranian research facility to stop their nuclear weapons development and make it home in time for his daughter’s graduation. It all goes to plan, but when his handler offers him a second assignment in Taliban-controlled territory to end Afghanistan’s nuclear capabilities for good, Tom decides that the payout — putting his daughter through medical school — is a good enough reason to potentially miss her graduation.
Tom’s strained marriage and home life are hanging by a thread when he meets up with his only support for this black ops task, Mohammad “Mo” Doud (Negahban), a translator. The soft-spoken Afghani shepherds Tom through dangerous land studded with warring militias as a favor to Tom’s handler, Roman (Fimmel). In exchange, Roman gives Mo information to complete a personal mission of his own: find what’s left of his family after a Taliban-enforced mass slaughtering in his hometown.
While on the second mission, Tom and Mo’s cover is blown, resulting in an unbreakable bond that forms between them as they fight to escape local warlords, Pakistani spies, and the forces of the Supreme Leader in a brutal race through the desert. They have only one shot at making it to the extraction point in Kandahar, and the only person they can count on is each other.
