Nathan Edwards reviewed the Alienware AW2725Q, a 27-inch gaming monitor, in March 2025, after replacing his 32-inch BenQ monitor.
- Alienware AW2725Q is a 27-inch gaming monitor.
- The monitor has a 240Hz 4K resolution QD-OLED panel.
- It costs about $900, making it relatively affordable.
- The monitor lacks a KVM switch for convenience.
- The author upgraded their CPU to a Ryzen 7 9800X3D.
- The monitor enhances gaming experience with adaptive refresh rate.
The AW2725Q features a 240Hz 4K resolution QD-OLED panel. Edwards had not considered a high-refresh-rate 4K OLED monitor before due to its expense and limited gaming time.
Initially, Edwards felt underwhelmed as most of his desk work did not require a 240Hz OLED. He noted improvements in video quality but found his work laptop limited to 60Hz output.
For non-gaming laptop use, the Alienware monitor lacked a KVM switch, making it less convenient than his previous monitor. Edwards also tested it with a six-year-old gaming PC.
Despite the aging gaming rig, the high-refresh-rate panel helped reduce screen tearing. He upgraded his GPU to a 4070 Super, which improved performance in demanding games.
After upgrading his CPU to a Ryzen 7 9800X3D, he experienced smoother gameplay. He achieved around 95fps at 4K resolution with high settings in a demanding game.
Edwards noted that returning to his old monitor made colors appear dull and less vibrant. He found the OLED display significantly enhanced his gaming experience.
Most of his monitor use is for work, where he missed the compact size of the Alienware. His BenQ monitor’s KVM switch and USB-C connection were more practical for daily use.
The Alienware AW2725Q has several positive features, including exceptional picture quality, adaptive refresh rate, and a unique casing design.
- Great picture. Just phenomenal.
- Adaptive refresh rate.
- The casing and stand are navy blue.
- The power button light is RGB and can sync with compatible games.
- There’s a USB-C port and a USB-A port on the left side of the bottom bezel.
Edwards expressed a desire for improvements, including more USB ports and a KVM switch. He found the Alienware Command Center to be poorly designed and annoying.
He remarked that Windows’s HDR support remains inadequate. Despite the monitor’s luxury status, he considered returning to his 60Hz BenQ monitor for practical reasons.
