The Xiaomi 17 Pro Max and Apple’s iPhone 17 Pro Max are the two most powerful smartphones on the market at the moment. Gaming tests show that the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5-powered phone holds consistent advantages in gaming performance, efficiency, and thermal management.
The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 is Qualcomm’s latest smartphone SoC. The Xiaomi 17 Pro Max has been tested against the A19 Pro-powered iPhone 17 Pro Max.
In the game Wuthering Waves, the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max maintains an average frame rate of 59.1 FPS, while the iPhone 17 Pro Max averages 57.8 FPS. The Xiaomi phone draws an average of 4.83 W, compared to the iPhone’s 5.89 W, despite running at a slightly higher resolution.
In Honkai Impact 3rd, at identical resolutions, the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max averages 59.6 FPS, while the iPhone 17 Pro Max averages 58.8 FPS. The Xiaomi device draws less power, at 5.30 W, versus the iPhone’s 5.52 W.
The Xiaomi 17 Pro Max also runs cooler than the iPhone 17 Pro Max. In the first test, the Xiaomi phone reaches a maximum temperature of 39.0°C, while the iPhone reaches 43.3°C. In the second test, the temperatures are 40.5°C for the Xiaomi and 42.7°C for the iPhone.
