Kurt De Witte, a popular café owner, was found dead in the kitchen of his café in Hever on September 30, 2025. He had recently reopened the former café Donk, now known as café Bij De Kurre, a year prior.

Kurt was discovered unexpectedly by emergency services late Monday night. His mother, Marina Meysmans, stated that they had chatted shortly before his death and that “there was nothing wrong.” She believes he may have called for help himself, but emergency responders could not enter as the café was locked. The police confirmed his death around midnight.

Following his death, the café was cordoned off with police tape for investigation. Marina Meysmans mentioned that an autopsy would take place at Gasthuisberg. She ruled out suicide, noting that Kurt was full of plans and was set to attend a hospitality fair in Maastricht the following week. She speculated that he might have suffered a fatal fall related to issues with his legs.
